How to Manage Group Settings and Members

Chat info, who can post, admins, leave and archive

Written by Gaurav

Open Chat info on a group or team chat to change details, members, posting rules, or to leave or archive.

Open Chat info

  1. Open the conversation.

  2. Open the conversation menu and select Chat info.

  3. Use the Details and Members tabs.

Details

  • Description — add or edit (placeholder Add a description / No description)

  • Who can post — All members or Only admins (for team chats you may see All team members)

  • Related team — shown on team chats (membership is managed in Teams)

New members see messages from when they joined. On team chats, change membership in Teams, not in Chat.

Header pills can show Archived, Only admins can post, or All can post.

Members

On the Members tab:

  • Add members (custom groups)

  • Make admin / Dismiss as admin

  • Remove from group

  • Search with Find a member

Admins show an Admin badge. You appear as (You).

Leave or archive

  • Leave group / Leave team chat — confirm with Leave

  • Archive group / Archive team chat — nobody can send new messages; members keep history and it can be unarchived later (Unarchive group / Unarchive team chat)

When archived, the composer shows that new messages are turned off. If only admins can post and you are not an admin, you can still read and react.
