Control who can use Chat and what they can start or manage. Configure these under Settings → roles, in the Chat section.
Chat abilities
Ability | What it allows |
Use chat | Read and send in their own team chats, groups and direct messages |
Start direct messages | Start a one-to-one chat. Without this they can still reply |
Create groups | Create groups and choose members. They admin the groups they create |
Manage all groups & chat settings | Manage any group and participate in its chat without joining |
Read all team & group chats | Read chats they're not in, for supervision. Every view is logged; direct messages stay private |
Toggle each ability under Allowed for the role.
Tips
Without Use chat, staff cannot open Chat.
Oversight with Read all team & group chats does not open private direct messages.
Someone with Manage all groups & chat settings may see a chat as an administrator and can read without posting.
