How to Record a Temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit

Use the °C / °F switch when logging or charting temperatures

Written by Gaurav

When you log a temperature, you can enter it in °C or °F. New entries default to °C. Switching the unit converts the number you typed; it does not change temperatures already saved.

Where to find the unit switch

On the website

  • Participant observations → create or edit a Temperature log — field Temperature with °C | °F

  • Reports → Temperature (List, Archived, or Chart) — same pill on the form and beside the chart

In the Care Diary app

  • Temperature log form — field Temperature with °C | °F

Record a temperature

  1. Open a temperature form (from the participant or from Reports → Temperature).

  2. Select °C or °F on the Temperature unit control.

  3. Enter the reading. An Equivalent line shows the value in the other unit when a number is present.

  4. Save the log as usual.

Accepted range: 35.0–41.0 °C (about 95.0–105.8 °F). Care Diary shows an error if the value is outside that range or not a valid number.

Charts and lists

  • The chart unit toggle only changes how the chart is displayed. It does not rewrite saved records.

  • Lists and filters still show stored values in Celsius (for example Temperature (°C)). Exports can include the original reading and unit.

Tips

  • Leave the field blank if you are not ready to enter a value; switching units keeps a blank field blank.

  • Older logs recorded before units existed are treated as Fahrenheit when shown.
